Pet of the Month - September 2017 - Dexter

Meet Dexter!  He was born in Clarksville on May 6th and was meant to be my dog. My beloved Zoey passes away suddenly at a young age earlier this year. I was heartbroken. My mom told me Zoey would send me the right puppy when I was ready. Boy, did she ever!

A friend of mine found a Facebook post from a woman whose two Boxers had a litter of THIRTEEN puppies. When the pups were two weeks old, I went for a visit and knew little 'Dex' was meant to be my puppy. So, talking to the owners, they said he would be ready to come home with me July 1st, which happens to be my birthday. Talk about meant to be!

Growing up, my family had 2 Boxers. We love the breed so much. I had mentioned that to the owners, so two weeks before the pups were ready to go to their forever homes, the owner contacted me and said one family backed out on one of the puppies. Long story short, my parents have Dexter's brother, Brodi. Fast forward to a day before the pups come home, the woman lets me know another family backed out and wanted to know if I knew anyone else looking for a Boxer. I told my parents, and believe it or not a family friend (who happens to live in the same neighborhood has my parents) had been looking for one. After about an hour, they decided to take Dexter's sister, Bella. So, these pups get to grow up together. Such a neat situation.

Being a science geek, is always liked the show "Dexter's Laboratory" as a kid, so that was the inspiration behind his name. He is a playful dog, and loves to chew on rawhide bones, and pig hooves (and not my shoes)! His favorite toy is a squeaky raccoon.

He is a very sweet dog and loves people. He is very smart! He is basically potty trained, can sit and shake for a treat, and quickly leaned his name. He brings a lot of joy and happiness to my life.
