Pet of the Month - November 2017 - Koji and Kiwi

Life has never been the same since siblings Koji and Kiwi (affectionately known as The Twins) joined my furry family.  The Twins have been inseparable since birth, and even now at almost 2 ½, whether they are eating, sleeping, playing or whatever (aka getting into trouble).

The first night that they had the run of the house, I woke up to find them snuggled in the small of my back, still a favorite spot for part of the night.  At almost 12 and 14 pounds, they are considerably bigger now, but still love to snuggle when the time is right.  Needless to say, they (one at a time) take over my lap and I happily let them do so.

Much to the amusement of my friends, The Twins have taught me a whole new level of tolerance; getting up on the pantry, the curio cabinet, the refrigerator or around the TV in the living room (it’s now firmly attached to the TV stand).

Entertainment is close at hand, as they are always social and playful. They never cease to amaze me at what they, especially Koji, come up with, usually together, but occasionally trying to include the other three cats in my furry family (Maui, 16; Mango, 13; and Cinder, 7).

They are members of P.E.T. P.A.L.S. (People in Education Therapy, People and Animals in Life Sharing) and make visits several times a month.  They visit Pinnacle Nursing Home, the Behavioral Health at Covenant, Northcrest Nursing Home, as well as one-time and special visits.  One of my favorites is the De-Stress Days during finals week at UNI at the end of each semester.

Koji is a little on the klutzy side, Kiwi is the talker of the two, and wherever one goes, the other soon follows.  The Twins were the best thing I could have done after losing a furry companion of 20 ½ years.  They always keep my life interesting from jumping in my lap unannounced or racing by me wherever I am headed.  Life without The Twins would certainly be boring.
